Cybersecurity program aims to bring digital manpower to Augusta

AUGUSTA. Ga. (WRDW) – TedX Augusta has come and gone. But the words from one speaker remain as relevant now than ever.

Indepth Defense owner Mark Baggett’s TedX Talk focused on a number of cybersecurity issues such as how easy it is for hackers to break into any system and the need for better security.

“We don’t even begin to understand what the threat is when it comes to hackers breaking into our systems,” Baggett says. “If an attacker tries to break into an average person’s computer, they are going to be successful.”

Internet of things increasing the stakes in cybersecurity

The internet of things is expected to increase the stakes for securing cloud-based networks as the number of internet-connected devices continues to surge to greater than 30 billion by 2020, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers’ State of Information Security 2016 report.

Globally, the average financial loss due to security incidents is now €2.3m, according to the PricewaterhouseCoopers report.

However, rather than let attackers win, boardrooms and business leaders are fighting back by increasing their security budgets by 24pc in the past year alone.

This is leading to a kind of renaissance in developing technologies and frameworks to fight off attacks with cloud authentication emerging as a replacement for passwords. For the full article click here

Silver Lining for IT Professionals

They say every cloud has a silver lining, and that certainly seems to be the case for IT professionals following the recent rise in prevalence and awareness of cyber-crime.

According to results from the Robert Walters Salary Survey, salaries for roles in IT security are set to receive a significant increase with employers offering an average rise of 14%, the largest across the industry.

This is a clear response to the significant amount of high-profile security breaches seen throughout 2015, with organizations looking to secure the highest caliber of talent available to strengthen their defenses against cyber-criminals.

Steve Corbett, Associate Director of IT recruitment, Robert Walters, said:

“Over the last year we’ve seen a massive increase in both permanent and interim cybersecurity roles due largely to the ongoing threat around IT and cyber-crime. The challenges facing companies continue to grow in volume and complexity as cybersecurity threats constantly evolve.” For the full article click here

The Anthem healthcare breach in early 2015 was the shot heard around the world when it comes to data breaches, affecting the personal information of millions of employees and members. It was among the largest breaches ever for an insurance company and even effected Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans not even owned by Anthem.
