Norwich University program supports cybersecurity at Super Bowl 50

NORTHFIELD, Vt. –

A soccer match and Wrestlemania were warmups for Norwich University students fighting hackers and cyberattacks at the Super Bowl this weekend.

They may not get the same publicity as Peyton Manning’s aging arm or Cam Newton’s dab, but Norwich University students are pairing with federal law enforcement to protect Americans from cyberattacks during the Super Bowl.

“Norwich University is the only educational institution invited to participate,” said Phil Sussman, Norwich University.

A cyberattack could come in the form of stealing personal or advertisers’ information or hacking computers that keep the show running.

A team of students flew to California and another team in their Northfield “war room” will monitor social media, malware and any vulnerabilities that arise.
