Edward Snowden speaks about surveillance and cybersecurity at Bishop’s University

Former NSA contract worker and whistleblower Edward Snowden spoke about online surveillance and cybersecurity via Google Hangout to students and the public at Bishop’s University in Lennoxville on Tuesday.

The talk was part of the school’s Donald Lecture Series.

Documents provided by Snowden to journalists including Laura Poitras and Glenn Greenwald, made waves around the world as it became public knowledge that the United States government was monitoring the online communications and phone calls of both Americans and foreigners en masse — and specifically high-profile targets like Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany.

Citizenfour, the documentary by Poitras detailing her first contact with Snowden and culminating in their now-famous meeting in a Hong Kong hotel room, won the 2014 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. For the full article click here
