The Japanese and U.S. governments agreed Thursday to enhance cooperation to prevent cyberattacks ahead of Tokyo’s hosting of the 2020 Olympic Games, a Japanese official said.
Toshiaki Endo, Japan’s Olympics minister, and Michael Daniel, special U.S. presidential assistant and cybersecurity coordinator, agreed to share more intelligence related to cybersecurity and cooperate in training personnel to fight hackers.
Cybersecurity and antiterrorism measures for the Games are the “top priority,” Endo told reporters.
The two governments will launch working-level talks on cooperation in January, according to Endo.
Japan will send a delegation to next year’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro along with a U.S. team to learn how better to prevent cyberattacks while hosting the event, Endo said.
Endo also visited the FBI and a cybersecurity facility of major U.S. defense contractor Raytheon Co., where he was briefed on anti-cyberattack expertise, he said. For the full article click here
