Acquisition university partners for youth cybersecurity

It’s not just about a competition – it’s about the future workforce.

As their slogan goes, Defense Acquisition University is not just a place for civilian and military personnel to take classes, they’re also a part of the community. Which is exactly why Steve Mills, professor of program management and DAU South cyber lead, is stepping out of his own classroom at DAU’s campus in Cummings Research Park, and into one at Madison County Schools to bring the increasingly popular CyberPatriot program to the Madison County school system.

“Getting our youth excited about cybersecurity is a growth industry,” Mills said. “Instead of sitting in our office, we can be out there in the community sharing our experiences, our expertise and our time to help students see the great opportunities in cybersecurity and how to be successful.”

Mills serves as a technical mentor in support of the newly formed Buckhorn High School CyberPatriot Club, in the hopes of the program expanding into other schools within the system, with even more help from community volunteers. The initial focus of the program is to prepare the team for CyberPatriot IX later this year, for which the club wants to field several teams. For the full article click here
