IRANIAN DAM HACKERS HIT OTHER TARGETS The Iranian hackers who penetrated an upstate New York dam in 2013 are almost certainly also responsible for a string of other critical infrastructure breaches, according to the firm that exposed those breaches in 2014. “It’s the same M.O., the same targets, the same sourcing,” Cylance Vice President Jon Miller told MC, adding that there “are definitely more attributable attacks, more than anyone has been able to report so far.” Cylance published a report titled “Operation Cleaver” in late 2014 that described an Iranian hacking campaign against defense, industrial and transportation targets spanning more than a dozen countries. Miller told MC he’s highly confident the dam breach in Rye, N.Y., which Justice Department officials are reportedly preparing to publicly attribute this week to Iranian hackers, was part of the same campaign.
