Idaho Cyber Security Task Force Begins Work to Stop Cyber Criminals

Our United States military is trained and ready to defend our borders, our local police force is trained and ready to protect our communities. So who is trained and ready to protect our information — in computer servers and floating around in what is known as the cloud?

Often, we are required to provide public agencies our Social Security Number, home address and sometimes even our bank account information. These files are stored in computer systems that are accessible from multiple locations at any given time. That also includes our state’s power grid, water lines and our universities’ intellectual property — they all have to be protected. Gone are the days when personal and company files or ideas were locked in filing cabinets, which stood in a locked office that was protected by a locked building.

As John Chambers, former CEO of Cisco Networks, one of the world’s most recognized Information Technology Networks, said, “There are two types of companies: those who have been hacked, and those who don’t yet know they have been hacked.” It is unfortunate that this statement is so true, and it applies to government agencies as well. For the full article click here
