Launched during the Barack Obama administration, Cybersecurity Awareness Month takes place each October and is sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security. According to the DHS website, it was put in place after recognizing the importance and impact of cybersecurity on our nation.
The Texas Tech Information Technology division takes this opportunity and conducts various events to educate the public and raise cybersecurity awareness.
Britta Tye, outreach and IT training specialist for Technology Support, said cybersecurity is a shared responsibility of all digital citizens, and it takes each of us to doing our part to keep the Internet safe and secure. The message the IT division is spreading this year is, “We are all responsible.”
“We all know what it means to be a citizen here in the Lubbock community, we all know what it means to be a Red Raider,” Tye said. “But we’re also citizens in the digital world and the cyberspace. So, just as we know how to be safe and secure and smart on campus and the Lubbock community, we need to know how to do that online as well.” For the full article click here
