Cybersecurity expert explains Ransomware risk in Pensacola

The Deputy Under Secretary of Cybersecurity for the Department of Homeland Security was in Pensacola this week. Dr. Phyllis Schneck came to spend time at their largest cyber operations office outside of Washington D.C. It’s right here at Corry Station. Dr. Schneck said their operation is only growing and helping the Emerald Coast become the Cyber Coast.

She said, “It embraces the idea here in Pensacola you have a lot of military, military training, a lot of scientists, both in our operations and as well the bases…You put all that together and get a real hot bed, you have people that know what you need in cybersecurity.”

The center was able to hire a lot of local talent due to the military presence in our area and UWF’s new program for cyber-security. Dr. Scheck has been in computer security for many years and Channel 3’s Christina Leavenworth sat down with her about talked to her about a growing threat facing businesses and people across the country: ransomware. For the full article click here
