Cyber Security Competition 2016

Hong Kong (HKSAR) – A total of ninety-nine winners of the Cyber Security Competition 2016 were commended today (July 9) for their participation in conveying the message of cyber security.

They received certificates and book vouchers from the Commissioner of Police, Mr Lo Wai-chung; Under Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Dr David Chung; Executive Director of Hong Kong Productivity Council, Mrs Agnes Mak; and Programme Director of Master of Science in Computer Science of the University of Hong Kong, Dr Chow Kam-pui, at the presentation ceremony.

Mr Lo said that the number of technology crimes had increased from 2,206 cases in 2011 to 6,862 cases in 2015. The pecuniary loss had also risen from around $140 million to $1.83 billion. In view of the change of crime pattern and its enlarging impact on the society, the Force strived to combat cyber crime and handle the cases by establishing the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau in early 2015. For the full article click here
