American University is reminding businesses that there’s a price for ignoring cybersecurity risks

Cybersecurity threats to businesses are evolving and becoming more sophisticated.

And so too are the risks of incurring steep legal costs for businesses who aren’t proactive in confronting these threats. That’s why American University’s Kogod School of Business launched the Kogod Cybersecurity Governance Center Thursday, to help businesses understand there is a price to pay for noncompliance.”Lots of people have focused lots of attention … to ‘protect and detect,’ meaning, put up those firewalls, find out if anybody has gotten through etc., with the belief, years ago, you could actually protect yourself 100 percent,” said William DeLone, who will be the executive director of the Kogod Cybersecurity Governance Center. “What the focus needs to be in addition to ‘protect and detect … ‘ is ‘response and recovery’ and this becomes a management and governance issue, not just a technology issue.”View the original content and more from this author here: http://ift.tt/1O4C5c8
