The Institute for Critical Infrastructure Technology met last Friday with senior technology and intelligence leads from U.S. House of Representatives members Barbara Comstock (MD), Ted Poe (TX), Zoe Lofgren (CA) and Thomas Massie’s (KY) offices to provide advisory on issues ranging from surveillance technology, threat intelligence, and privacy / civil liberties. Last week’s passage of the USA Freedom Act and debate over other surveillance-related legislation served as the impetus for the meetings, during which ICIT’s legislative team and ICIT Fellow HP provided objective insights and education.
As a result of the meetings, each member’s office has offered to sponsor an ICIT event at the House of Representatives where current and future ICIT Fellows will have the opportunity to hold workshops and educational sessions with members of congress and senior staffers.
Continuing its leadership among federal agency and legislative leaders, ICIT will be speaking at the British Embassy on June 2, 2015 alongside ICIT Fellow Covenant Security Solutions in a workshop titled “Information-Sharing: International Perspectives on the Physical-Cyber Convergence”. Covenant will be delivering an in depth talk on the featured topic, while ICIT will be providing an overview of current information sharing legislation.
Later that same day, ICIT will be a the U.S. Senate Hart Building as part of the “National Heath Sector Fly-In” where its Fellows are participating in a meeting of legislative, agency and national healthcare leaders. Lead by the NH-ISAC and with organizational support by ICIT, topics will include “National Healthcare & Public Health: The Current and Future Threat Landscape” and “Cross Sector Critical Infrastructure Resiliency: How We Are All Connected.” The Fly-in is being organized by members of the Healthcare and Public Health Sector Coordinating Council (HPH SCC), which ICIT is a member.
