Lack of appropriate laws exposes the country to more cyber attacks

INCOMING President Rodrigo R. Duterte must draw up a cohesive strategy to protect the country against cyber criminals, particularly hackers who have made the Philippines, with millions of Internet users, as one of their favorite targets.

The strategy must include formulating the right mix of laws to deal with cybercrime as a serious threat, among others, to national security.

The reason is not just the Supreme Court (SC) temporary restraining order (TRO) that suspended the implementation of the Cybercrime Prevention Act that was supposed to take effect on October 3, 2012, which, just six days later, the SC issued a 120-day TRO against the implementation of the law.

On February 5, 2013, to give way to oral arguments by 15 petitioners, mostly from the Left, the TRO was extended indefinitely, “until further orders from the Court.” For the full article click here
