Mount St. Mary’s University plans to offer degrees in cybersecurity, forensic accounting

Mount St. Mary’s University plans to offer two new undergraduate degrees next fall, one in cybersecurity, the other in forensic accounting.

Both programs have been in the works for at least a year now, Mount faculty members said. They’re a component of the new strategic plan moving forward at the Mount, “Mount 2.0,” which involves revamping the school’s core curriculum and expanding course offerings.

The degrees are 48 credits each, which amounts to 16, three-credit courses.

Cybersecurity

Talks of adding a cybersecurity program have gone on for years, especially considering the rising popularity of cybersecurity careers, said Melanie Butler, a Mount associate professor.

The school currently offers an 18-credit minor in cybersecurity, a field that involves the protection of both hardware and data.

Students will be required to enroll in 12 foundational courses, and four electives. In the required courses, students learn everything from building computer networks to viruses and malware. Students also must take a capstone course. For the full article click here
