Cal State Fullerton’s Engineering and Computer Science Center for Cybersecurity is presenting a series of “Firewallside Chats,” discussions designed to educate students on today’s cybersecurity issues. The chats began March 11 and feature speakers including CSUF faculty and industry experts focused on the pressing issues of cybersecurity.
The inaugural Firewallside Chat was delivered by Mikhail Gofman, assistant professor of computer science and director of the Engineering and Computer Science Center for Cybersecurity at CSUF. He focused on advanced persistent threats, “which are new kinds of attacks. Unlike other kinds you keep hearing about, like computers getting viruses, those kinds of attacks are No. 1, and they’re executed by relatively large sophisticated groups,” he said.
“They aren’t there just to steal a few bucks,” he said. “They’re there to cause serious damage or serious theft. Those attacks are incredibly stealthy. Once they’re in your network, they can lay there for years without being detected.” For the full article click here
