KUALA LUMPUR: CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM) will assist the National Cooperative Movement of Malaysia Bhd (Angkasa) in ensuring that the cooperatives sector is not threatened by cybercrimes.
Its Chief Executive Officer Dr Amirudin Abdul Wahab said CSM will work with Angkasa by providing expertise in various aspects such as technical, development, training and awareness on cyber security.
He said this was important as today, nobody was free from threats such as fraud, hacking of accounts and information, as well as on-line spams.
“CSM will try to use its expertise and technology to smoothen Angkasa’s operations, especially involving financial transactions, to prevent it from being cheated or incurring losses caused by cybercrimes.
“We will also stress on the cooperatives the importance of correct use of the internet and technology as this is not fully practised in this country,” he said.
He was speaking at a media conference after witnessing the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between CSM and Angkasa in Seri Kembangan, here today.
Also present was the president of Angkasa, Datuk Abdul Fattah Abdullah.
Besides a joint venture in technology and cyber education, the MoU would also allow Angkasa to test the security of its paperless voting system through the e-Undi application, using CSM’s assessment.
Commenting further on cybercrimes, Amirudin said as of April, CSM had received complaints of 3,189 cases of cybercrimes, with 1,505 involving cheating. For the full article click here
