GURGAON: A city university organized a workshop on cybersecurity for Gurgaon Police on Saturday. The daylong workshop was attended by more than 60 police officers from the cyber crime cell and the newly formed ATM fraud cell amid a spurt in cybercrime cases the city is witnessing.
According to a senior police officer, Gurgaon, with a high concentration of computer-savvy people, continues to witness online frauds and misuse of ATM (debit/credit) cards. “We have received 801 cybercrime complaints till July 3 this year. Most cases are related to net banking, credit/debit card fraud, hacking of emails and cheating through mobile phones,” said the officer.
Taking into account the seriousness of this issue, a comprehensive training module was designed by ITM University. The topics covered in the workshop included cryptography in secure electronic transactions, cybersecurity, e-banking frauds and remedies, social engineering with SSL stripping and digital forensics.
The university has also introduced a new course from their current academic session – MTech in computer science with specialization in cybersecurity. Police officers were also taken to the computer labs for a practical session which gave them hands-on experience of tools of cybersecurity.
