Sen. Warner to Introduce Bipartisan Cyber Security Bill with 3 Other Senators

WASHINGTON, DC (WVIR) -Virginia Senator Mark Warner will help introduce a bill Wednesday that will strengthen cyber security on government websites.

Warner will join three other senators in a press conference at 11:30 a.m. to announce the bipartisan F.I.S.M.A. Reform Act.

The bill is supposed to help prevent and block cyber attacks on dot gov networks. This comes in response to a recent cyber attack at the Office of Personnel Management.

Washington, D.C. – In response to the recent cyberattack at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), U.S Senators Susan Collins (R-ME), Mark R. Warner (D-VA), Dan Coats (R-IN), members of the Senate Intelligence Committee, and Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), a member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, will host a press conference TOMORROW at 11:30 AM ET to announce the introduction of bipartisan legislation that would strengthen the cybersecurity of our federal agencies.

While the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) currently has the mandate to protect the .gov domain, it only has limited authority in order to do so.  The bipartisan FISMA Reform Act of 2015 —authored by Senators Collins, Warner, Coats, Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), and Ayotte—would give DHS strengthened authority to prevent and block cyberattacks on .gov networks.
