Graduates learning to battle cyber threat

COMPUTING graduates from the University of Portsmouth will be among the first in the world to be trained in cybersecurity.

As more businesses rely on advancing technology, there has been a need for more help in fighting critical cyber threats.

The university produces between 150 and 200 computer science graduates a year.

Until now learning cybersecurity has been optional for students, but higher education facilities up and down the country are now looking to make this a mandatory part of their learning.

Head of the university’s school of computing Dr Nick Savage believes the new national guidelines will help shape how graduates learn about the importance of cybersecurity.

Dr Savage said: ‘This is an important step in the approach to cybersecurity education in the UK and we all need to be on board. Cybersecurity is a fundamental aspect of computing in the modern world and these skills need to be taught.’
