SERDANG: Fraud tops the list for cybercrimes in the country, says CyberSecurity Malaysia chief executive officer Dr Amirudin Abdul Wahab
Amirudin said that this year alone, 1,505 fraud cases have been recorded by the Malaysia Computer Emergency Response Team (MyCERT) between the months of January and April.
“The highest number of complaints we’ve received for the last three to five years were on fraud,” he said, adding that the fraud cases make up more than half of the 3,189 cybercrime reports MyCERT received this year.
He added that the fraud cases include phishing and online scams such as love scams and job scams.
He said that the awareness of cybercrimes was still low among Malaysians, adding that Malaysians need to know how to protect themselves from these newer types of crimes.
He added that the increase in cybercrimes in the country could be attributed to the rise of Internet users in the country every year. For the full article click here
