As our lives become more automated, our most important systems become more vulnerable. Computer chips, the kind that power your smartphone and PC, also drive systems that control water quality, large industrial operations, power grids that provide electricity to homes and businesses, and transportation systems: trains, buses and those automated cars you’ve been hearing so much about.
Hackers work around the clock to infiltrate these systems. They never stop, day or night. The cyber threat is here. It’s real. And it must be confronted and contained.
Securing the nation’s critical infrastructure from cyber threats is a focal area of Idaho National Laboratory. Ensuring that water, power and transportation systems are safe and resilient — as well as designing strategies and systems that will thwart future cyber threats — is core to INL’s growing national and Homeland Security mission.
